Assia was a senior researcher at the Seismological Department of the Research Center in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics (CRAAG) Algiers, Algeria. She has got her PhD in Seismology at the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene in Algiers (Algeria).

 

She was the Coordinator of the North African Group of Earthquake and Tsunami studies (NAGET) (http://naget.ictp.it/), the Regular Associate of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics and ICTP Simons Fellow (Trieste, Italy), Vice-President of the Arabian Geosciences Union (http://arabgu.com/files/index.php), and founding member of the Algerian Geophysical Society (SAG).

 

Assia was author of more than 400 publications and among the recent articles:

·       Seismicity of Eastern Algeria: a revised and extended earthquake catalogue, in Journal of Seismology in 2010.

·       The Djidjelli (Algeria) earthquakes of 21 and 22 August 1856 (I 0 VIII, IX) and related tsunami effects Revisited, in Journal of Seismology in 2011.

·       The Algerian homogenized macroseismic database (267–1989): A deeper insight into the Algerian historical seismicity, in Seismological Research Letters in 2015.

·       A glimpse at the history of seismology in Algeria, in Seismological Research Letters in 2019.
